Public Service Announcement: DDoS Attacks

Dear players,

Over the past week Astro Empires has been under a strong DDoS attack. A distributed denial-of-service attack is when someone uses many compromised computers to bombard a website with traffic until nobody else can access it. We know that this has caused a lot of inconvenience to all members of our community and do apologise unreservedly, but rest assured we did everything within our power to put an end to the attack as soon as was possible.

We have implemented temporary protection onto our servers which we expect will stop any future attacks from bringing our servers down while we investigate others systems of protection. We also plan on moving our servers to a new Datacenter, with betters conditions, which should improve the game performance.

As a small apology to our paying customers we have added 4 days upgrade to each of your accounts. This will also apply to any upgrades which have expired while the issue has been ongoing. We once again apologise for all this but expect we can put it behind us now.

We are aware that some of you are experiencing problems connecting to the game since the implementation of the DDoS protection. Here's a few suggestions on how to try and solve this:

- Restart your internet connection (modem/router) to try get the new DNS information.
- Update your browser to the latest version or try using a different browser.
- Check your computer for spyware/malware using free tools such as Spybot, AdAware or Microsoft Security Essentials. If your computer is infected and was used on a DDoS attack chances are it has been blocked.
- The DDoS protection system shows a CAPTCHA from time to time, please do not ignore the CAPTCHA and answer it correctly, otherwise you can be blocked out automatically.

Also, there might be an increase on latency due to the use of the DDoS protection, but please bear in mind that this is temporary until we find a better and more permanent solution.
