Astro Empires, 5 years on

Hi guys,

Wow, can you believe it? It's been five full years since a Portuguese programmer with the online handle of 'Wizard' launched a new game and invited a handful of local friends to join his first server 'Alpha'. And boy, what a five years it’s been! Expansion, Goon invasions, stronghold galaxies, server wars, crusades of good vs evil, blob clashes, new graphics, gameplay tweaks, new languages, and much much more.

                                                          

Today AE, which was just a coders day dream those few years ago has 352,392 bases, approximately 40,000 players, 700 galaxies, is available in 14 languages, has 10 servers and 7 members of staff. On behalf of all the staff here at AE we'd like to thank you, each and every one of you who has taken the time to join us in the Astroverse and continue to stick with us through the good and the bad of the past years. 

In order to celebrate Wizard has unleashed Drekon frigates into each server. If you take one out you get three months of upgrade completely free! For further details click here.

In game news our new Blue Nova skin has been launched into Beta across the servers. Have you tried it out yet? If you fancy trying it out click 'account', 'display' and then change your skin to 'Blue Nova'. If you find any bugs please do highlight them in bugs forum and let us know what you think on the forums feedback section or comments here.

In other game news Arabic has been launched as AE's 14th official language. The Middle East is a little busy at the moment but once things calm down perhaps we can encourage a few new players to the game ;-)

Now, allow me to leave you with something only a few of you will remember. Back in 2008 Astro Empires suffered a bug affecting a few hundred users on the alpha server. It was a somewhat amusing bug, so I thought I would share a screenshot I just unearthed!

I can't for the life of me remember how it happened but it was worth a chuckle at the time!
